In a couple of weeks it will start again. On the morning and evening news, on all the magazine covers. Five easy steps to loose those pesky pounds. A magic pill to relieve stress and improve memory. A three minute workout for rock hard abs.
Every year I scan the articles. I watch the infomercials. I think wow it seems so easy! I can’t believe it is this easy! But of course nothing is that easy. All the holiday indulgence will not be fixed or burned off in three minutes a day. Those rock hard abs come at a price. A lot of self control and hard work.
Now of course I want to be healthy and in shape. But I am struck by how much time and energy I can spend obsessing over external appearance. I have an extremely beautiful mom and three very attractive sisters. They are pretty on the outside, but their true beauty and value comes from who they are spiritually.
